Bangers and Maths
What an awesome turn out at the Whakatu hall. Thank you Joe for supporting this and thank you to all parents and children who also supported this.
Weight a minute......Many things around the home can help support our learning in Maths. A lot of products have the weight printed on them which is a part of Measurement.
Things to do:
-find the weight of the product(it is important that the unit is verbalised as well e.g. g=grams)
-order (x) amount of products from lightest to heaviest.
-find the heaviest item on the shelf.
-find items which add up to 2kgs.
-find 3 items that weigh the same.
One of the most important things you can do to make weight a familiar thing to children is to simply use the language. Use it while cooking, shopping, gardening or when estimating the weights of items by hand.
A very clever Clive Kid ordering 3 different items from lightest to heaviest.
Please feel free to comment and offer any suggestions for things you could do at home which encourages the use of weight.
Egg Cartons
We are using the egg cartons to support our I-pads. Because the cases are so chunky, there are only certains types of stands which a suitable.
